For this task, we were told to choose a movie to create a 2.5 digital matte out of it.

Movie Chosen: Avatar (2009)

I specifically chose the first Avatar movie because it is one of my favourite movies. I love it’s visual, world building, and plot. I love it so much that I watched it over 5x and watched the process of concepting and making this movie come to life. The movie’s visual contains a lot of nature, where rainforests, towering mountains, and diverse wildlife create a vibrant alient ecosystem called Pandora. Compositions

After I got my general idea on what to make, I made different composition sketches to help me visualize it more. In total, I made 6 compositions. I try to make different angles and composition of the floating mountains, pandora forest, and the stone arches, making sure the foreground, middle ground, and background is clear.

Idea 1: Floating Mountains of Pandora

After making my compositions, I chose 3 from the composition that I like the most. For the first idea, I want to make the floating mountains of pandora. When I first watched the movie, I found the floating mountains very beautiful. Turns out, it was inspired from actual mountains from a National forest park in China.

Idea 2: Stone Arches Of Pandora

The stone arches of pandora are natural rock formations that were created over millions of years by erosion. When the mountains started floating because of unobtanium and Pandora's magnetic field, these arches stayed intact and became part of the floating landscape seen in the movie. I made this composition inside the stone arches of pandora, showcasing the floating mountain and water outside of it.

Idea 3: Pandora Forest

For the third idea, I want to make a composition showcasing the pandora forest environment. I included the Jake and Neytiri (characters from Avatar) to be in the foreground, looking out at the scenery.
