Exercise 3: Vector Animation
On week 2, we had an exercise in class to make a simple vector animation from the file Mr.Martin gave us. I first seperated each of the object in adobe illustrator and animate them one by one using the position option in After Effects. I also added easy ease, motion blur, and a bounce effect by adding two more keyframes.
Vector Animation Exercise (2)
On week 3, we were given an assignment to animate a vector file by ourselves to be submitted next week. I got vector file D, which was a dog and its owner. My plan was to make the tail wag, hand moves, and paws moving.
First, In the adobe illustrator file I seperate each object that I want to animate in a different layer and re named it.
Next, I moved on to After Effects to animate. I rotate the hands, pawsm and tail, and each add easy ease and motion blur. I made the tail wag faster by getting the key frames closer to each other so it's more realistic.
Here's the final result:
Exercise 4: Animation Chart
For the final exercise, we were tasked to create an animation of a chart to visualize their information better. I got tasked to make a line graph animation based on this article:
First, I arrange the text and lines to make a line graph based on the article. This took a long time because it's my first time making something like this, and aligning them in the proper way takes time. I also made three different colors for each category with different shapes to make it easier to process.
1. Kinetic Typography
For the last project, we were tasked to make Kinetic Typography based on our song choice. We were split into groups, and continued to discuss and divide the work. We unamisly voted to execute the Good time song by Carly Rae Jepsen and Owl City.
Our color palette and typography:
We divided the lyrics amongst the group, and this is the verse that I'm working on:
Goodmorning and Goodnight
I wake up at twilight
Its gonna be alright
We dont even have to try
its always a good time!
First, I created the backgrounds that I want to use based on the color palette on Adobe Illustrator. Once I have the background colors, I head over to After Effects to do my kinetic typography.
For the first line, I want to make a transition between morning and night like the lyrics. I timed the lyrics with the beat, and add a sun and moon vector that matches the line. I made them come up from the sides to convey it better. I made sure to add key ease and motion blur too in every of my animation.
For the "I wake up" line, I wanted to create a simple eye blinking animation. First, I match the lyrics to the beat by making the text go from small to big so it can look like "waking up". I followed this youtube tutorial to make the blinking effect: https://youtu.be/Awcv2dQ-Nk4?si=oQcUN-Hps-hP9qzR
I created a sphere, and made the blinking effect using bezier, and animated it using key frames.
Since "Twilight" is a soft, diffused illumination in the sky when the Sun is below the horizon, I made the background gradient, with a rotating moon on top of it. For the twilight text, I used a preset that goes spinning from one point to another.
For the "I'ts gonna be alright" line, I wanted to emphasize on the "alright" since the song did too. My plan was to make a camera move along the alright word. To do this, I made all the words 3D, and added a camera. I'm not familiar with after effects, so watching youtube tutorials help my idea come to life: https://youtu.be/tX162LxOx-I?si=7gRRyHj-zUJ8BGhK
I also made this line "We dont even have to try" line 3D, isometric style. I matched the lyrics to the beat first, and made the object 3D. Then, I added a null object and parent all the text to the null object. I created a time frame and started animating a simple movement from left to right. I also followed another youtube tutorial : https://youtube.com/shorts/2F6i2mrg_Ik?si=cFDHLonAciU4pGTJ
I also made the background color change with the beat so it looks like flashing colors and it made it less plain.
Finally, for the last line "It's always a good time", I seperated the "Its always a" and "Good time" because I wanted to emphasize the Good time. I changed the background with the beat too. I matched the lyrics to the beat, and finally added a exit preset transition to the left.
Here is the results:
