TASK
For this assignment, our task is to create splash art for our character based on their backstory. Since my character is someone who isn't suppose to be in that world and has their own hideout, I decided to make the splash art located inside a candy cave. I then collect references to help me create my sketches.

Background Chosen
I decided to go with this as the background inspiration for my splash art since its a candy cave.
Fig 1.2 Background Chosen
These are the first three sketches I made based on my references. The first being inside her little cave hideout with candies surrounding her. Secondly is in an area full of candy cane as trees as her hideout, and finally the third sketch is Lulu in a cave too, but the rainbow is more dominant.
When I showed Mr.Fitri my sketches, he told me that the first and third is interesting, and told me to combine those two.
Fig 1.3 Sketches
I made two more sketches after receiving Mr.Fitri's feedback, combining both ideas together. I combined the platform and rainbow together, and made a variation of the rainbow being in the background, focusing on the cave. Mr.Fitri told me I can do the first idea, but make the rainbow go all the way down and let it flow better.

COLORING
I first placed my character on where I want it to be and did my line art, tracing from the sketch that I did and making sure everything is neat and has proper line weight to it. I also made and add more contents in the ground and foreground, as it was lacking in the sketch. Next, I colored the Cliff area and the platform. This took the longest time as it requires a lot of shading and consideration from where the light is coming from. In this case, it comes from the back. I try to maintain the shading with soft transitional lines instead of harsh lines for it to have a soft like feeling.

Then I colored the rainbow. I was confused on what color to pick since rainbows usually have more than three colors, but I decided to go with the first three colors of the rainbow and made sure to use soft, pastel colors so it can blend in with the surrounding. I thought it was lacking though, so I added a white glitter, representing a sugar dust just like in the movie franchise. I also added an overlay layer where I made some areas brighter like the lollipop, chocolate, and candies.

The character didn't really fit into the background because it lacked reflective lights. So I created a duplicate layer, where I changed the hue to a more pink-purple color, and made the saturation higher. Finally, for the final touches, I created an overlay layer to add some reflective lighting from her surrounding that is bouncing all over her and the chocolate.

REFLECTION
This assignment was really fun, it was like the rainbow after the storm. I had fun doing splash art for the first time for my own character, and it was fairly simple. The sketches and idea also took me a short time, but whats the most time consuming is of course the line art and coloring process. During the line art, I had to undo over and over because the line or line weight isn't going like how I want it to be. The coloring process was challenging and time consuming too, as I had to first block in the colors, add shading, lighting, overlay, etc. But at the end, it was satisfying on how it all came together. One thing I might want to do differently after seeing the result is how the overall splash art silhouette looks, I think it looks too square-ish (?) especially on the high caves, I think it would be better if it would cave inwards more like a circle instead of upwards. In the future, I would also hope that I could learn more on how reflective lighting works, how light bounces off, because I think in this assignment I was kind of just doing it based on logic.
